Benjamin Netanyahu holds the record for Israel's longest-serving prime minister — allowing social media users plenty of time to spread rumors about him amid his tenures in office.
Netanyahu, who frequently made news in mid-2025 amid Israel's protracted offensive against Hamas in Gaza and its war with Iran, was born on Oct. 21, 1949, in Tel Aviv, Israel. His parents raised him in both Israel and the United States, and he first served as prime minister of Israel from 1996 to 1999, before holding the office again from 2009 to 2021 and then from 2022 to the time of this writing.
Netanyahu's polarizing reputation and allegations of his role in perpetuating war crimes and human rights violations in Gaza often resulted in Snopes fact-checking rumors about his supposed comments on aggressive military actions and civilian casualties.
Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump's reported "deep ties" also resulted in rumors about the two's relationship, such as a claim that Trump told Netanyahu to stop a Gaza ceasefire deal because it would help former Vice President Kamala Harris' 2024 presidential campaign.
Below is a collection of rumors we have investigated about the prime minister.
