In September, a major lawsuit dropped accusing seven male students at Cornell University of drugging and raping a female student in October 2024. The case has sparked student protests seeking to force the Ivy League school's administration to resign over the lack of consequences for the men accused of rape.
A history of alleged sexual assaults at Cornell came to the fore after the lawsuit was filed. For example, USA Today says it has uncovered 1,200 incidents of "sexual assault, dating and domestic violence and stalking" that were reported to the university between 2018 and 2024.
Though the school's administration released a statement pledging greater transparency, Cornell has not responded to any of Snopes' requests for comment in the course of our investigations.
As prosectutors revisit the case to determine if criminal charges can be filed, we put together a collection of our reporting on the story thus far.
