Rumor has it that U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi used $15,000 worth of ball-point pens in the ceremonial signing of articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump this week.

It’s not unusual for multiple pens to be used in such a ceremony, nor for those pens to be distributed as souvenirs to other lawmakers present, as was done in this case — in fact, it’s something of a tradition in Washington, D.C.

But did they really cost $15,000 of taxpayers’ money? We asked Speaker Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff about the price tag.
