Featured on Snopes today: A bill about intersex kids in California made news this week, imprisoning librarians did too, as well as a story about law enforcement rounding up 1,700 runaway piglets.

by Snopes Staff, July 12, 2018

Earlier this week, California state lawmakers rejected SB 201. The bill would have barred doctors from performing "treatment or intervention on the sex characteristics of a person born with variations in their physical sex characteristics who is under 6 years of age unless the treatment or intervention is medically necessary."

"Intersex" is described by the Intersex Society of North America as a "general term used for a variety of conditions in which a person is born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn't seem to fit the typical definitions of female or male."

The bill had its opponents and advocates, and the state of New York will soon consider a similar measure. Bethania Palma reports.
