What happens regarding U.S. President Donald Trump’s term of office if he is not convicted at the end of the Senate impeachment trial? Nothing, according to the provisions of the U.S. Constitution. Trump would serve out the remainder of his current term and be eligible for a second.
An alternative theory pinging around the internet, however, says that a “failed” impeachment “nullifies” the president’s first term, making him eligible for not just one, but two more — three terms altogether!
