Happy Feb. 29! This date only happens in leap years, and 2020 is the latest one (leap years occur when a year is perfectly divisible by four).

Folk tradition tells us that leap years were the only times when women could propose marriage to men. It was often referred to as "The Ladies' Privilege."

The origins of this tradition may be murky, but our story from 2004 (also a leap year) sheds light on this tale that’s been passed down for some time.
