The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 1,500 points Monday morning after oil prices fell due to fears about the global spread of the coronavirus.

Riffing on the “There’s a Trump tweet for everything” trope, social media users recirculated a screenshot of a tweet attributed to Donald Trump in 2015 in which he supposedly wrote that if the “Dow Joans” [sic] ever falls more than 1,000 points in a single day, the sitting president should be shot out of a cannon.

Snopes reporter Bethania Palma traced the tweet back to its source and confirms it was not, in fact, issued from Trump’s account.
