Amidst online misinformation being spread about the novel coronavirus outbreak (which the World Health Organization (WHO) has now declared a global pandemic), a few authentic and attention-worthy missives have emerged.

Snopes.com’s Dan Evon verified a post written by an intensive care unit physician named Daniele Macchini in northern Italy, a region exceedingly hard-hit by the virus. “Let’s stop saying it’s a bad flu,” Macchini wrote, describing the dire conditions facing local residents and the medical personnel working against all odds to provide sufficient care.

It isn’t too late for other countries to take steps to impede the spread of the virus, says the head of WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “All countries can still change the course of this pandemic. If countries detect, test, treat, isolate, trace and mobilize their people in the response.”

Macchini’s Facebook post vividly describes the consequences of waiting too long.
