When Halloween Became America's Most Dangerous Holiday

Featured on Snopes today: Websites doxx a gender-questioning child, President Trump announces a Colorado border wall, and cream of tartar as a smoking cessation tool.

by Snopes Staff, Oct. 24, 2019

Today on Snopes, Bethania Palma reports on the effective doxxing of a gender-questioning child by right-leaning news websites who covered a divorce case in which the child’s gender status was an issue.

Was it necessary for these sites to reveal the child’s name and personal information in order to report on the case? No, said a media ethicist, who also told Palma that doing so was unethical and harmful to the child.

These outlets manufactured outrage by revealing the identity of a minor. What's more, some of them have track records of hateful reporting on the transgender community in the past.
