More than a month after it was first published, a “satirical” article on a website known for trolling Trump supporters with fictional claims remains among the most looked-up items on Snopes.com.

That article, headlined “Pelosi Diverts $2.4 Billion from Social Security to Cover Impeachment Costs,” has been shared more than 24 million times by Facebook users, according to a new study. That’s despite disclaimers and repeated debunkings.

Many of the people sharing it online appear to believe it’s true, or at phenomenon is one reason why Snopes includes material identified as satire or humor among the items we fact-check.
