Despite its overhyped reputation, Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) isn’t really the busiest shopping day of the year in the United States, though it is typically among the busiest.
Besides exaggerating how busy the day is, people have come up with various questionable explanations of how it came to be named “Black Friday.” Perhaps the strangest of these is the notion that the term originated with the slave trade in early America.
