A new piece of anti-abortion legislation introduced in the Ohio General Assembly creates a capital offense called “aggravated abortion murder” and pushes doctors to attempt to re-implant an ectopic pregnancy into a woman’s uterus.

An ectopic pregnancy is a dangerous condition in which a fertilized egg implants outside the womb, often in the fallopian tube. Re-implantation of an ectopic pregnancy is not an established or even well-studied medical procedure.

Snopes.com’s Bethania Palma reports that the measure has garnered broad criticism and may be part of a larger strategy to maneuver legal cases challenging Roe v. Wade into the U.S. Supreme Court.
