On May 28, 2025, tech billionaire Elon Musk posted on his social media platform X that his time working for the Trump administration as the public face of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) had come to an end. "The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government," Musk said in the post.

Snopes constantly fact-checked rumors about Musk while he worked in the Trump administration, including the claim he was shutting down the Meals on Wheels program for older Americans, the claim he was shutting down Democrats' access to their Teslas and whether he once reposted a post that said, "Stalin, Mao and Hitler didn't murder millions of people" (true).
