Even before U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris began her 2024 presidential campaign, news outlets and political commentators were focusing on the fact she had been appointed by President Joe Biden to lead the administration's diplomatic efforts to stem migration over the U.S. southern border, referring to her as a "border czar." This scrutiny of Harris' immigration stances only continued as Election Day grew closer and closer.
Throughout the campaign, we fact-checked claims that spread related to Harris and/or her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and immigration policy. One of the articles focuses on the "border czar" claims surrounding Harris. Another claim, in this case targeting Walz was that he said he would help migrants cross the border wall by investing in a ladder factory. (Walz did say this, but facetiously, to emphasize the ineffectiveness of a border wall as a way to prevent migrants from crossing the U.S. southern border.)
In the run-up to the 2024 election, we've fact-checked many other claims surrounding Harris and Walz. Some of these claims have focused on images that have targeted the Democratic nominees, while others have focused on statements the two allegedly have made.
