Did President Trump Order Detained Immigrants to Wear Yellow Bracelets?

Rumors with varying degrees of truth are swirling amid U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping immigration crackdown.

The American immigration system has long been the subject of rumors, in part due to a lack of transparency from two major agencies: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP).

However, such rumors skyrocketed with U.S. President Donald Trump's return to the White House in 2025 after he enacted sweeping policies aimed at removing or barring noncitizens, particularly those without legal authorization, from the country.

The crackdown has been rumored to include some U.S. citizens as well. Snopes looked into claims that a 10-year-old U.S. citizen was deported to Mexico and that ICE detained members of Native American nations, for examples.

False or misleading rumors involving immigration officials can have consequences. Unfounded claims about ICE raids, for example, can stir fear in immigrant communities. Those types of rumors flooded our inbox in the early days of Trump's second presidential term, prompting a breakdown of information we knew to be true or unverified.

Below are 20 rumors involving the immigration authorities and our findings.
