More than 66 million Americans are enrolled in Medicare, the U.S. government's health insurance plan for people 65 or older and some younger patients with disabilities. 

Given how complicated health insurance is — and how many people are affected by Medicare policy — rumors often spread about changes to the program. For example, Snopes has confirmed that President Donald Trump's administration announced the end of a Medicare subsidy program to help lower the cost of prescription drugs. We have also examined claims about supposed fraud in the program and allegations that various Republican politicians, including Trump, have sought to cut or end Medicare.
