On Jan. 7, 2026, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Jonathan Ross shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Good in Minneapolis. Rumors about the shooting and Good's character spread widely across the internet in the following weeks, helped along by conflicting descriptions of what took place in the moments before and after her death.
Federal authorities said the agent fatally shot Good in an act of self-defense after she attempted to run him over with her vehicle. Mediaanalyses of bystanders' cellphone footage and a video Ross recorded, which appeared to show Good attempting to turn away from the agent, challenged the veracity of that account. Local officials, including Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, also challenged the federal government's account, with Frey calling the fatal shooting reckless.
