UN Demands U.S. Pay Reparations for Slavery?

The United Nations was established in 1945 with the stated purpose of international peace, cooperation and security. However, many people have criticized the intergovernmental organization for its influence — or lack thereof — in the decades since.
As a result, Snopes often debunks rumors about the United Nations' actions, such as whether the U.N. wants to eliminate private car ownership or whether the organization called for "government raised children." Claims also circulate about the United States' fraught relationship with the U.N., such as whether the U.N. demanded that the U.S. pay reparations to Black descendants of slavery.
