The company later deleted the post and wrote a follow-up message acknowledging that it had "caused hurt."
Snopes contacted Amazon for further comment. We will update this article if we receive a response.
Here's what happened
On Oct. 15, 2025, X user Savannah Monroe posted a photo with the caption (archived): "My boyfriend has a Niall Horan dog tag hanging on his bedroom wall," referring to the Irish singer.
Less than four hours later, Monroe quoted that post by posting a picture of her left hand adorned with a ring on her ring finger (archived). The text read (detail in parentheses ours): "He proposed to me about an hour after I posted this (the previous post)."
On Oct. 17, the verified X account for Amazon Prime Video India, which has more than 1 million followers as of this writing, put out the in-question post quoting Monroe's engagement post.
The company's X post included a screenshot of a topless man in glasses holding a ring. The post's caption read: "Girl is there any chance your fiancé looks like this?"

One Reddit user explained how Belly was "in a love triangle" with Jeremiah and his brother and that the audience considered the former "a loser." The scene in the Amazon Prime X post "became a massive meme" among fans to "point out that (Belly) should end up with the other guy." (
On Oct. 18, Monroe quoted the company's post, writing (archived): "When a huge streaming platform puts out a mean-spirited tweet about one of the happiest moments of your life for engagement, inviting harassment in droves." Her post amassed more than 7.2 million views as of this writing.
The following day, the Amazon Prime Video India X account replied to her post, saying (archived): "Our recent tweet caused hurt and that's not okay. We've removed it and are taking steps to ensure our content reflects our values of inclusivity. We'll do better from hereon."

Speaking via X direct messaging, Monroe said: "I never could've anticipated just how out of hand the whole thing became. That said, nothing could've taken away from the preciousness of the moment ... Above everything, I'm incredibly happy."
She added that she was "grateful for those who've called out how odd the [Prime Video India] post was."
