About this rating

In December 2025, a video circulated online appearing to show Judge Frank Caprio telling a story about how he found Barron Trump, son of U.S. President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump, guilty of assault in a bar.

Caprio, a judge and star of the television show "Caught in Providence" who also found fame online for showing compassion in the courtroom, died in August 2025 at age 88. The video appeared to show a situation before Trump won his second term, as Caprio called him the "former president."

"Barron Trump used his father's presidential power in my courtroom. I gave him two years in prison and proved that in America, no one, not even a former president's 19-year-old son, is above the law," Caprio said at the end of the video, which circulated on YouTube and Facebook

Snopes readers searched the website for evidence that Barron Trump went to jail or was addressed by Caprio.

None of the above events happened. This video was generated by artificial intelligence (AI), and as such, we have rated this clip as fake.

YouTuber account JUDGE OF JUSTICE appeared to be the author of the AI-generated video. The description of the video included this disclaimer:

⚠ Disclaimer: This video is created for entertainment and storytelling purposes. It is generated using artificial intelligence and is inspired by courtroom-style scenarios. All characters, events, and dialogues are fictional and are not intended to represent real individuals, legal cases, or actual events

JUDGE OF JUSTICE's YouTube channel included numerous artificially generated videos of Caprio. It was not possible to reach the account's creator at the time of publication.

Even without the disclaimer, numerous red flags appeared in the video indicating the use of artificial intelligence. For example, the U.S. flag in the background looked distorted in various places. The intonation of Caprio's voice sounded monotone, a common tell for artificially generated audio.

Caprio, a judge in Rhode Island, presided over municipal court, which typically handles misdemeanors and minor violations, such as traffic tickets and trespassing. The official "Caught in Providence" YouTube channel for the television show about Caprio's courtroom had no videos about Barron Trump assaulting anyone.

A Google search for "Barron Trump jail," "Barron Trump prison" and "Barron Trump assault" also showed no relevant results from reputable news outlets. If the president's youngest son had been charged with assault, it would certainly have been considered newsworthy.

Snopes previously debunked an AI-generated video of Caprio "shutting down" a CEO's daughter.
