About this rating

For years, online users have shared purported screenshots allegedly showing conservative commentator Ben Shapiro posting (archived) on X about having a "beautiful" and "hot" sister and saying he stares at her pictures for hours.

In short, the post images were fake. Although Shapiro has made real posts about his sisters, including his sister Abby Roth (formerly Shapiro) — the woman pictured in one of the inauthentic posts — he never shared the posts in the screenshots.

Snopes emailed both Shapiro and Roth to ask if they wished to share statements responding to the users who spread the fake posts. We will update this article if we receive further information.

Here's what we know about the origins of the fake post screenshots.

'Look how beautiful my sister looks'

One of the fake posts featured (archived) Shapiro supposedly saying, "Look how beautiful my sister looks. Simply glowing. I've literally been staring at these photos for hours." The inauthentic post displayed two photos of Roth, pictured below in a light blue dress.

KnowYourMeme.com reported that the images in the fake post did not show Roth's true appearance, but instead were doctored versions of authentic pictures a photographer captured at a baby shower. One of the website's authors reported: "Pregnant Abigail Shapiro Photos Broke The Internet Even Though They Were Photoshopped."

A reverse image search found the fake post and altered pictures potentially originated from a February 2022 Reddit post on the subreddit r/196.

Days after that Reddit post, a TikTok user posted a video (archived) with the fake post and the caption, "The amount of people that tagged me in this tweet #fyp #abbyshapiro #jewish." She uploaded the clip after her followers noted they believed her physical appearance resembled Roth's.

'Say you have a hot sister'

A second fake Shapiro post screenshot about Roth read, "The thing with homosexuality and transgenderism is that it simply boils down to exerting control over your impulses. Like, say you have a hot sister. You fantasize about it, maybe you steal her underwear a couple times, but it goes no further than that."

For example, in March 2026, an Instagram user reposted (archived) a January 2022 X post (archived) featuring the inauthentic screenshot.

A second reverse image search located (archived) posts (archived) from users sharing the inauthentic post image as far back as 2020. For example, a Reddit user posted (archived) the fake post image on the r/ToiletPaperUSA subreddit on Sept. 20, 2020.

Abby Roth

Aside from the fake post images and doctored photographs, Shapiro has posted (archived) before about having three younger sisters.

He once posted about Abby Roth being "a professional soprano." He noted (archived): "She's classically trained, of course -- full opera scholarship at USC, master's in opera from Manhattan School of Music. I'm quite proud of my little sister."

Shapiro has shared several videos (archived) of Roth performing, including one (archived) of her singing "The Star-Spangled Banner," the U.S. national anthem:

For further reading, we previously reported about another fake Shapiro post mentioning Roth and actor Sydney Sweeney.
