On Dec. 4, 2024, UnitedHealthcare confirmed that the company's CEO, Brian Thompson, was shot and killed in Manhattan, New York City.
Two days later, on Dec. 6, a video (archived) started circulating, captioned: "NYC coming together to dance in the streets over the universal American love of CEOS". The video shows people dancing on East 11th Street in Manhattan while singing Natasha Bedingfield's "
Versions of the post across Instagram, X (archived), and TikTok (archived) gathered thousands of views.
However, while the video itself is authentic, the description is inaccurate. Our research found that the original video (archived) was actually recorded on Nov. 20 by Instagram user Rachael Burke, following a Natasha Bedingfield concert (archived) at nearby Webster Hall. Therefore, Snopes rates this video miscaptioned.
Video Shows Post-Concert Street Party
The video was recorded on the corner of East 11th Street and 3rd Avenue in Manhattan, New York, as seen on Google Maps.
Other videos from the event (archive) (archived) show the same party at the same location, but were posted on Nov. 20 and 21 local time, which we established using an online tool. The Dolar Shop, a local restaurant, appears in the background of these two videos and in the background of the original video as well.
Burke confirmed via email that she recorded the original video, and sent metadata confirming the recording date as Nov. 20, two weeks before the shooting of the UnitedHealthcare CEO.
Ticketmaster listed a concert by Natasha Bedingfield at Webster Hall, about 300 feet from where Burke's video was recorded, on Nov. 20.
