About this rating

In July 2025, an old post attributed to U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez went viral in which she appeared to challenge President Donald Trump to share his college transcript and compare who between them was the better student. Ocasio-Cortez was reportedly responding to Trump's claim that she was not a good student.

The post allegedly stated:

Trump today on Fox News: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was a poor student…she's not even a smart person.

AOC's response: Let's make a deal, Mr. President: You release your college transcript, I'll release mine, and we'll see who was the better student. The loser has to fund the Post Office.

Ocasio-Cortez did indeed respond to Trump's criticism of her abilities as a student with a challenge to share his college transcripts. As such, we rate this a correct attribution.

Ocasio-Cortez made the post on X on Aug. 13, 2020, after Trump said on Fox News: "AOC was a poor student [...] this is not even a smart person, other than she's got a good line of stuff, she goes out and she yaps." Trump was criticizing Ocasio-Cortez's political positions.

In response, she wrote on X:

Let's make a deal, Mr. President:

You release your college transcript, I'll release mine, and we'll see who was the better student.

Loser has to fund the Post Office.

Ocasio-Cortez was also addressing Trump's criticism of mail-in voting ahead of the 2020 presidential election. He had acknowledged that he was blocking funds to the U.S. Postal Service to prevent the processing of mail-in ballots. Trump worried that mail-in ballots could cost him the election and also falsely claimed widespread mail-in voting would cause voter fraud.

We have previously fact-checked many claims about AOC, including her claim that she was originally from the Bronx, as well as false claims that she is a multimillionaire and that her family collected her dead grandmother's Social Security checks.
