A rumor that circulated online in July 2025 claimed actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson said, "I've seen a lot of evil in Hollywood scripts — but nothing compares to what Israel is doing in Gaza. The Israeli government and its Prime Minister Netanyahu are heartless criminals with no shred of humanity."

For example, on July 26, an X user posted (archived) the quote along with an image of the Israeli flag and a photo of Johnson. The post received nearly 3 million views, as well as more than 24,000 reposts and 100,000 likes.

Users also shared the same quote with Johnson's name, either as text or in memes, on Bluesky (archived), Facebook (archived), Instagram (archived), Threads, TikTok, Tumblr (archived) and X (archived).

However, searches of Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo found no credible record of Johnson ever making such a statement. Had Johnson publicly spoken out against Israel and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, news media outlets worldwide would have covered the matter.

Snopes contacted by email several of Johnson's representatives to ask if they could speak on the fabricated quote, and will update this story if we receive further information.

Tracking down the original post

According to the aforementioned searches of search-engine websites, as well as social media platforms, an X account named Global Lens News (@Global_Lens_New) hosted the oldest instance (archived) of the purported quote. In that user's July 24 post, the quote had a different ending, reading, "The Israeli government and its Prime Minister Netanyahu are sons of a b****."

The Global Lens News account displayed only 13 total posts, including other inauthentic quotes, and a creation month of July 2024. The user's oldest post showed a July 23, 2025, date, meaning they recently created all 13 available posts.

In one example of another fake quote, the user falsely claimed (archived) entertainment icon Oprah Winfrey said, "Humanity bleeds in Palestine because of Israel. There's no excuse for oppressing an entire people. Raise your voice!" Searches of Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo found no record of Winfrey posting or saying any such remark.

'Worst-case scenario' famine crisis in Gaza

The quote attributed to Johnson began circulating online in late July, at around the same time the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification said on July 29 that, due to Israel's ongoing military offensive and blockade, about 2 million Palestinians in Gaza were living in the "worst-case scenario of famine."

In remarks marking the gravity of the deepening crisis in Gaza, The New York Times reported that same day that U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., became the first Republican in Congress to label Israel's actions in the coastal strip as a "genocide."

For further reading, a previous fact-check article examined whether a video truly showed actor Harrison Ford calling pro-Palestinian supporters a "force of nature."
