About this rating

Aside from acting, Gwyneth Paltrow has made a name for herself selling pricey, eccentric items via her lifestyle brand Goop.

She made headlines during the 2019 holiday season, for example, by selling a 24-pack of "sustainable" toilet paper rolls for $34. Goop also went viral for selling jade eggs designed to be inserted into vaginas to help females "get better connected to the power within," which resulted in the company being fined by California authorities for false advertising.

So unusual products from Paltrow's Goop may not come as a surprise. But when news stories reported on a $75 candle that allegedly "smells like my vagina," readers asked Snopes whether it was true.

Goop is indeed selling a $75 item called "This Smells Like My Vagina Candle." Although some news outlets interpreted that to mean the candle smelled like Paltrow's vagina, it appears the item is more general. The product description reads, "With a funny, gorgeous, sexy, and beautifully unexpected scent, this candle is made with geranium, citrusy bergamot, and cedar absolutes juxtaposed with Damask rose and ambrette seed to put us in mind of fantasy, seduction, and a sophisticated warmth."
