A rumor that circulated online in June 2025 claimed the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced its intention to vote on whether to move the 2028 Olympic Games away from Los Angeles "for the safety of the athletes and fans alike."
For example, on June 17, a manager of the Facebook page America - Love It or Leave It posted a reel — Meta's name for short videos — displaying the words, "The International Olympic Committee will vote on moving the 2028 games from Los Angeles 'for the safety of the athletes and fans alike.'" The text caption next to the reel read, "Los Angeles is too dangerous to have people from all over the world walking around. The committee is considering safer cities like Tulsa or St. Louis." The post, receiving over 519,000 views, also included a picture showing the aftermath of self-driving cars that demonstrators set on fire in L.A. on June 8, during protests against U.S. President Donald Trump's immigration policies.

Some readers seemed to interpret the rumor as a factual recounting of real-life events. However, searches of Bing, DuckDuckGo and Google found no news media outlets reporting the IOC's intention to vote on whether to move the 2028 Olympics — a development that would be a major news story.
Rather, the America's Last Line of Defense (ALLOD) network of Facebook pages and websites, which labels its content as parody and satire, owns the America - Love It or Leave Facebook page. The page's bio reads, "A subsidiary of the America's Last Line of Defense network of trollery and propaganda for cash. Nothing on this page is real." A small label also appears on the reel with the latter sentence, "Nothing on this page is real."
The America's Last Line of Defense Facebook page, described in its bio as the "flagship" page for the ALLOD network, previously posted a reel promoting this same claim earlier in June. The network's Reagan Was Right Facebook page also hosted two posts featuring the rumor, including some added text with a fabricated IOC quote:
The International Olympic Committee will vote on moving the 2028 games from Los Angeles "for the safety of the athletes and spectators alike."
"The IOC strongly condemns the actions of Angelinos. We must consider the level of danger present if an international event comes to town."
Gavin Newsome's [sic] "greatest city in the world" is too dangerous to host anyone but the communists and rioters who live there.
Snopes has addressed similar untrue claims in the past, including the assertion that FIFA, the international soccer governing body, seriously considered relocating scheduled U.S.-hosted 2026 World Cup matches to Mexico or Canada — countries that are already hosting some matches.
