About this rating

In June 2026, a rumor spread that singer-rapper Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, had filed for divorce from his wife of 10 years, Bunnie Xo, whose real name is Alisa DeFord.

Several Snopes readers emailed and searched the website seeking to confirm the claim as social media posts amplified it, including one X post that shared a photograph of the couple (archived):

The rumor also appeared on Facebook, Instagram and Reddit.

The claim stems from a June 16, 2026, TMZ report, based on a divorce petition the tabloid publication said it obtained in Tennessee.

The rumor is true. Snopes identified a page (archived) from the Williamson County, Tennessee, Online Court Records Systems website that listed a divorce filing naming Jason Bradley DeFord as a plaintiff and Alisa Andrea DeFord as a defendant. While the petition itself was not available online, this was enough to confirm that Jelly Roll filed for a divorce from Bunnie Xo.

We reached out to a talent agent for Jelly Roll, a publicist for Bunnie Xo and a lawyer listed on the divorce filing page from Williamson County, Rose Palermo, who is based in Nashville, Tennessee. We will update this report should any or all of them respond.

TMZ first reported the couple had split on June 15. That day, TMZ published a separate article with photos showing a truck parked in front of the couple's house, saying it was a moving truck.

TMZ's June 16 story reported that Jelly Roll had filed on May 18 (the filing on the Williamson County court records website confirmed this date), listing the date of separation on May 9 (we could not verify this detail). The story further quoted "sources with direct knowledge" who said the couple's separation was "mutual."

For further reading, Snopes once debunked the claim that Jelly Roll had donated $5 million for homeless shelters in his hometown of Antioch, Tennessee.
