In mid-July 2025, social media users shared a screenshot that appeared to show actor Kevin Spacey publicly demanding the release of all files related to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019. Spacey has faced sexual misconduct allegations of his own for years, contributing to speculation about ties between the actor and Epstein.
The image spread roughly a week after the U.S. Department of Justice shared a memo on July 7, 2025, stating that the department's review found no incriminating "client list" and no credible evidence that Epstein had blackmailed prominent people. The DOJ also concluded that "no further disclosure would be appropriate or warranted" in its investigation of Epstein. As The Associated Press reported, this memo contradicted
One Reddit post (archived) shared a blurry screenshot of the alleged Spacey post, captioned, "I swear it's real." The alleged post in the screenshot read:
Release the Epstein files. All of them. For those of us with nothing to fear, the truth can't come soon enough.
I hate to make this about me — but the media already has.

The screenshot spread across social media platforms including Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and X.
Several online news outlets, such as TMZ and The Hill, also picked up the story. TMZ wrote on Facebook, "Kevin Spacey is DEMANDING the release of the Epstein files."

In the post, Spacey referred to the long-standing public scrutiny linking him to Epstein, which we'll discuss in further detail below. His use of the phrase "for those of us with nothing to fear" suggested that such a disclosure would help clear his name.
A search of Spacey's X profile showed that this was his only public post referencing Epstein:

Spacey's past links to Epstein
Spacey's demand to "release the Epstein files" gained particular attention because of his previous associations with Epstein, which have drawn public interest for years. For instance, Spacey's name appeared in the January 2024 release of unsealed court records from Epstein-related legal proceedings — documents that also mentioned other prominent figures such as former President Bill Clinton and the U.K.'s Prince Andrew. However, the available records did not contain any evidence that Spacey engaged in illegal activity in connection with Epstein.
In a June 2024 interview on "Piers Morgan Uncensored," Spacey acknowledged that he had flown on one of Epstein's planes alongside Clinton Foundation members and that "young girls" were present. During the interview, Spacey said the trip in question was a humanitarian mission to South Africa. He claimed that at the time he did not know the plane belonged to Epstein and that he only learned of Epstein's ownership years later, when his name became publicly linked to Epstein. Spacey insisted that he had no personal relationship with Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell, an associate of Epstein currently serving a 20-year prison sentence, and denied visiting Epstein's private island.
Legal cases against Spacey
Spacey's public image has been shaped by a series of sexual misconduct allegations that began in October 2017, when actor Anthony Rapp accused him of making a sexual advance in 1986, when Rapp was 14. Spacey said he did not recall the encounter but apologized if it occurred. More than 30 people later came forward with similar allegations.
In the U.K., Spacey was charged in 2022 with multiple counts of sexual assault involving four men, linked to his time as artistic director of London's Old Vic Theatre. He was found not guilty on all charges in July 2023. At least two ongoing civil cases regarding sexual assault allegations against Spacey in the U.K. were still active as of July 2025.
In the U.S., Spacey faced a lawsuit from Rapp, but a New York jury ruled in Spacey's favor in October 2022. A separate 2018 criminal case in Massachusetts, alleging Spacey groped an 18-year-old, was dropped in 2019 after the accuser withdrew his lawsuit.
The multiple allegations led to Spacey's removal from the Netflix series "House of Cards" and his replacement in Ridley Scott's film "All the Money in the World."
Other Epstein rumors
In July 2025 we investigated multiple rumors on the topic of the alleged "Epstein list," including a claim that in July 2023 Donald Trump Jr. tweeted, "Show us all the Epstein client list now!!! Why would anyone protect those scum bags? Ask yourselves this question daily and the answer becomes very apparent!!"
We also looked at claims that Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives blocked a legislative amendment that called for the DOJ to release files pertaining to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and broke down claims that Maxwell offered to testify about Epstein's client list.
