Context

The image is real and U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared it on social media. However, the caption claiming Kid Rock addressed the Strait of Hormuz was fabricated, originating in an X post from a user who has shared fictional and humorous content.

In April 2026, social media users alleged an image authentically showed musician Kid Rock addressing officials and service members in the Pentagon's press briefing room about the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. and Israel, as well as their adversary Iran, have focused on the key Middle East shipping route in recent ceasefire negotiations.

Some social media commenters asked whether the image was created with artificial intelligence, and Snopes readers searched the webstite for the truth.

In short, the image was genuine but miscaptioned. The rumor that Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, addressed the Pentagon about the Strait of Hormuz originated as an X user's joke (archived).

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted the picture on Facebook, Instagram, Threads and X (archived) on April 27, 2026, as part of a slideshow highlighting the musician's Washington visit. Kid Rock also greeted service members and rode on an Army Apache attack helicopter departing out of Fort Belvoir in Virginia. Hegseth teased of the helicopter ride, "More to come on that!"

In a statement to Military.com, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said Kid Rock's visit was part of celebrating America's 250th anniversary:

Robert "Kid Rock" Ritchie participated in multiple troop touches with service members and filmed videos for Memorial Day, America's 250th birthday, and for his Freedom 250 tour. The visit provided an opportunity for Kid Rock to thank service members […] and recognize their continued sacrifice.

Snopes emailed the Pentagon to confirm these details and ask about the rumor. We also contacted one person and two websites mentioned later in this story, and will update this article if we receive further information.

Kid Rock previously headlined an alternative Super Bowl halftime show in February for the conservative organization Turning Point USA. Weeks later, on March 28, he shared a video showing him saluting military helicopters hovering near his home — which features a White House replica, of sorts, he dubbed the "Southern White House" — in Whites Creek, Tennessee, just north of Nashville.

After the Army suspended the crews involved in the flights to the musician's home, Hegseth himself reversed the suspensions. The defense secretary reposted Kid Rock's video, thanking him and saying the flight crews would face "no punishment" and "no investigation."

Researching the photo and rumor

Searches of Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo, as well as reverse image searches, located numerous examples of users reposting the photo showing Kid Rock in the Pentagon's press briefing room, as well as the rumor about him addressing the Strait of Hormuz. (Some users also posted only the picture with a more general caption not mentioning the strait.)

The rumor about Kid Rock specifically addressing Pentagon officials about the Strait of Hormuz originated from X user Spencer Hakimian (@SpencerHakimian), who first posted (archived) the claim around one hour after Hegseth shared his posts. Hakimian's caption read, "JUST IN: Kid Rock addresses The Pentagon on the Strait of Hormuz."

(@SpencerHakimian/X)

After Hakimian made his post, other users shared the same image and Strait of Hormuz rumor on Bluesky (archived), Facebook, Reddit (archived), Threads (archived) and X (archived). AlternativeNation.net (archived) reported the rumor, citing the MiddleEastEye.net website (archived).

Hakimian later posted a brief video on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, in which he shared the same photo and said, "Kid Rock addressed the Pentagon the Strait of Hormuz crisis. How are we a real country?" The user labeled the posts similar to the way a satirist might provide light hints, including with hashtags for "#funny," "#meme" and "#comedy."

The user also shared joke posts about Kid Rock and President Donald Trump, continuing to make light of the musician's appearance in Washington.

For further reading, we previously reported whether Kid Rock truly sang "I like 'em underage" and "some say that's statutory" in the song "Cool, Daddy Cool."
