In June 2025, as protests over immigration enforcement actions erupted in Los Angeles, a claim (archived) circulated that a video showed people attacking and tasing a Los Angeles shop owner amid the demonstrations.

One X user who shared the footage on June 8, 2025, wrote, "Horrifying. LA shop owner attacked and tased by lawless rioters who destroy his store during LA's anti-American sovereignty riots."

However, the footage claiming to show people attacking a Los Angeles shop owner in June 2025 was miscaptioned. While the footage is authentic, it was captured at a 7-Eleven store in Anaheim, California, in October 2024.

Snopes used a video verification tool called InVid to isolate frames of the viral video and RevEye to conduct a reverse image search.

That reverse image search led us to an article published by KABC, a Los Angeles news station, on Oct. 6, 2024, which describes an attack on a clerk at a 7-Eleven in Anaheim during a "takeover robbery."

The same footage shared on X in June 2025 is embedded in the KABC article, credited to an Instagram user with the same handle as an account that posted the footage on Oct. 9, 2024, captioning it, "Someone reported the video but here it is again."

People who appear in the KABC footage wearing masks and trying to break through the door wore identical outfits to those shown in the June 2025 footage. The 7-Eleven clerk also appeared to be knocked to the ground in the same manner in the video shared by KABC and the June 2025 footage.

The Anaheim 7-Eleven robbery in October 2024 followed a "series of separate flash-mob style robberies targeting 7-Eleven stores across southern California," KABC reported at the time.

Though the particular video at the heart of this claim wasn't captured during the June 2025 protests, KTLA, another local news station in Los Angeles, reported that several local businesses were looted and vandalized following the weekend of protests over immigration enforcement actions.
