About this rating

As news of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's engagement spread in August 2025, a video surfaced supposedly showing comedian Larry David on NBC's "Today" show reacting to the proposal.

The Grammy-winning artist and Super Bowl champion co-announced the engagement on Instagram on Aug. 26.

On that same day, a TikTok user posted the video (archived) with the caption, "'Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged!' Larry David: (🎥: @todayshow)," as well as onscreen text reading, "'I don't give a sh*t' - Larry David on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce." The clip received over 2.2 million views.

The video showed "Today" show host Samantha Guthrie asking, "What do you think about Travis and Taylor?" In response, David smiled, and Guthrie and host Hoda Kotb started laughing. He answered, "You've really got a nerve, you know? You've really got a nerve. By the way, I used the s-word once before on this show some years ago. I'm prepared to use it again in the answer to that question, and I think you know it's 'I don't give...' yeah."

Users also shared the video as alleged evidence of David's reaction to the engagement on Facebook, Instagram (archived), LinkedIn (archived), Threads (archived), TikTok (archived), X (archived) and YouTube.

However, while the video truly showed David answering a question about Swift and Kelce, the clip originated from a "Today" show broadcast on Feb. 1, 2024 — roughly 19 months before the engagement. Guthrie was asking David about his thoughts on the couple being in a relationship.

The exchange occurred at the beginning of David's interview, as seen in the "Today" show's YouTube video of the appearance:

A check of news reports uncovered no evidence of David making public comments about the Swift and Kelce's engagement, as of this writing.
