About this rating

After the May 18, 2026, attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego that left three people dead, a rumor spread that far-right influencer Laura Loomer said the best way to keep U.S. Muslims safe was "to deport every Muslim in America back to the Middle East where they can live in fully Islamic societies."

Occupy Democrats, a left-leaning group, shared Loomer's alleged quote in a Facebook post, calling it a "disgustingly racist call to deport all Muslims" (archived):

The same quote appeared on Reddit and Instagram in the form of a purported screenshot of an X post by Loomer. The alleged post read (misspelling "Markwayne Mullin" as "Markwayne Muslim"):

In light of the Islamic center shooting today, I think it's time to make sure Muslims are safe. The best way to ensure their safety is for our DHS Secretary Markwayne Muslim @SenMullin to deport every Muslim in America back to the Middle East where they can live in fully Islamic societies and blast their call to prayer without triggering Amercians into psychosis as a side effect of having their non-Islamic habitats disrupted by invasive species.

Let's make sure Muslims are safe. Send them back to the Middle East where there's a mosque on every corner.

The quote was correctly attributed to Loomer.

Loomer posted (archived) these words on X at 7 p.m. Eastern time May 18, several hours after two teenagers opened fire at the Islamic Center of San Diego, which describes itself as the largest mosque in the area. (Though editing posts is a feature available to premium X users such as Loomer, she had not corrected the spelling of Mullin's last name as of this writing.)

Loomer is no stranger to Islamophobia. In 2017, the ride-hailing app Uber banned her after she made a series of social media posts criticizing Muslims following a terrorist attack in New York, including one using the hashtag #ProudIslamophobe.

For further reading, Snopes confirmed in 2025 that Loomer suggested feeding "illegals" to alligators.
