In March 2026, social media users shared an image allegedly showing a dad wearing a Make America Great Again hat blocking a transgender person from entering a women's restroom.
The purported photo featured a person with rainbow-colored hair wearing a necklace, a crop top, a skirt, rainbow-colored socks and a purse. According to users' posts, the father wearing the MAGA hat sought to block the person from entering the restroom while his daughter was inside.
For example, on March 24, conservative commentator David Harris Jr. posted (archived) the image with the onscreen caption, "This dad stood in front of the door and said, 'My daughter's in there.' Do you agree with what he did?" A faintly-visible watermark read, "Dad Talk Today."

The watermark referred to an Instagram account and post (archived) under the username @dadtalktoday. Other users reposted the same image on Threads (archived), X (archived) and other social media platforms.

In short, the image was created with an artificial intelligence tool. It originated from a Facebook page whose manager described the page's content as satire and parody.
Snopes messaged Harris to ask if he was aware the image was fake when posting it and will update this article if we receive further information.
Origins of fake image
On Feb. 11, the image of the dad in the MAGA hat blocking the trans person from entering the women's restroom first appeared (archived) on the Facebook page The United Spot. The text caption read, "What happens next?"
The Facebook page was categorized as "Satire/Parody" with the brief bio, "Parody Videos/Satire • Comedy Account" and "I BRING MEMES TO LIFE."
Speaking via Messenger, the page's manager said they asked the Grok AI tool to create the image. The user shared a screenshot of the exact text prompt, reading, "Create a photo of a trans gender man in rain bow leggings and skirt with a rainbow colored short haircut trying to get into the women's bathroom but a burly white man with a MAGA hat on is blocking her way."
(Grok)
There were numerous visible signs that the image was AI-generated, such as the trans person's lower back appearing blurred and unclear, the purse strap partially disappearing, and the women's restroom signage featuring wheelchair-access notices with non-standard symbols.
For further reading, we previously reported on whether Turning Point USA cofounder Charlie Kirk once stopped his car on a dark highway to help change a transgender man's tire and whether a video truly showed U.S. President Donald Trump saying that trans people don't exist.
Since the effectiveness of satire is subjective, we use "originated as satire" or "labeled satire" ratings based on creators' descriptions of their work.
