In February 2026, social media users shared an image purportedly showing a man wearing a Make America Great Again hat blocking a transgender person from entering a women's restroom.
The purported photo depicted the trans individual with rainbow-colored hair, a necklace, a crop top, a skirt, rainbow-colored socks and a purse. According to users' posts, the man wearing the MAGA hat sought to block the person from entering the restroom where his daughter was present.
For example, on Feb. 11, a Threads user posted (archived) the image with the caption, "My daughter is in there! Who else would do the same?"

Another example (archived) of the image featured overlaid text reading, "This dad stood in front of the door and said, 'My daughter's in there.' Do you agree with what he did?"
The alleged picture also spread elsewhere on Facebook, Instagram, Threads and X.

In short, the image was created with an artificial intelligence tool. It originated from a Facebook page whose manager described the page's content as satire and parody.
Origins of fake image
On Feb. 11, the image of the man in the MAGA hat blocking the trans person from entering the women's restroom first appeared (archived) on the Facebook page The United Spot. The text caption read, "What happens next?"
The Facebook page was categorized as "Satire/Parody" with the brief bio, "Parody Videos/Satire • Comedy Account" and "I BRING MEMES TO LIFE."
Speaking via Messenger, the page's manager said they asked the Grok AI tool to create the image. The user shared a screenshot of the exact text prompt, reading, "Create a photo of a trans gender man in rain bow leggings and skirt with a rainbow colored short haircut trying to get into the women's bathroom but a burly white man with a MAGA hat on is blocking her way."
(Grok)
There were numerous visible signs the image was AI-generated, such as the trans person's lower back appearing blurred and unclear, the strap of the purse partially disappearing and the women's restroom signage featuring wheelchair access notices with non-standard symbols.
