A rumor that social media users circulated online in late March 2025 claimed a screenshot from 2021 showed U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a staunch conservative and strong supporter of President Donald Trump, saying in a tweet that she is "a product of incest."
The purported post with Greene's name — showing a date reflecting a time before "tweets" changed to "posts" — read, "I AM AN UNAPOLOGETIC PRO-LIFE CHRISTIAN AND I AM AGAINST ABORTION NO MATTER WHAT. Even if that baby is a product of incest, she is still a precious gift from God! Heck, I know one such example who grew up to be a controversial congresswoman from Georgia ?."
However, Greene never tweeted this message. No such post appeared on Greene's personal account, @mtgreenee, or her congressional username, @RepMTG. Searches of Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo also did not produce any articles from news media outlets reporting on the matter.
Greene spokesperson Nick Dyer said in a direct message on X, "Yeah it's obviously fake."
User deleted popular post sharing fake tweet
On March 26, 2025, Threads user @iamchrishatchett posted (archived) the fake tweet screenshot with the caption, "So THAAAAAT explains it." The post received tens of thousands of engagements. The user has not yet responded to a request via Threads for comment asking whether they were aware the screenshot was fake when sharing it.

Days later, on March 30, a Reddit user posted (archived) a screenshot showing X user @AnnieForTruth saying of the supposed tweet, "Is she saying she is a product of incest? That would explain so much!" One user responding to the Reddit post asked, "Is this real?" Another user also inquired, "This is fake, right?"

As of April 2, @AnnieForTruth's post link displayed the message, "Sorry, that post has been deleted." An archived version from March 29, captured prior to deletion, showed their post approaching 1 million views. Via X, @AnnieForTruth did not yet respond to a request asking for comment about her post's deletion.
Origins of the fake tweet
The fake tweet screenshot featuring Greene's image and name possibly originated on the r/totallyrealtweets subreddit on Reddit, as hinted by the inclusion of the subreddit's name at the bottom of the image.
On June 15, 2021, Reddit user u/carrorphcarp posted (archived) the fake tweet screenshot on the subreddit. At the time, the image displayed the date of June 16, 2021, and the time of 1:08 a.m. The version of the image later shared in March 2025 showed a different date and time, displaying 9:31 a.m. and Oct. 4, 2021. Reddit has since permanently suspended u/carrorphcarp.
