About this rating

On Sept. 9, 2025, a video claimed to show Republican U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia putting up a poster of a risque 50th birthday letter now-U.S. President Donald Trump purportedly wrote to Jeffrey Epstein, who was later convicted of sex offenses. On Sept. 8, the U.S. House Oversight Committee released the full "birthday" album after subpoenaing Epstein's estate for various documents related to him. Epstein died by suicide in jail while awaiting new charges of sex trafficking minors in 2019.

In the video that spread on TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, Greene appears to be putting up a poster-sized print-out of the letter that was released by the U.S. House Oversight Committee and The Wall Street Journal, along with large prints of Trump's purported signature. Numerous readers also asked us to confirm the veracity of this footage.

We found no authentic evidence that this was a real video. Errors in the footage indicate it was generated by artificial intelligence (AI). There was also no authentic media coverage of the video or evidence of Greene sharing it on her verifiable social media accounts. As such, we rate this claim as fake.

Using Google's reverse-image search tool, we looked for any authentic sources for the video. However, the video was not on any of Greene's social media accounts, nor was it reported on by reliable news outlets. Were this video real it would have been widely covered by the news media.

The earliest example of the video available online was via the Instagram and Facebook accounts of Tom Adelsbach. The footage was posted along with the caption:

BREAKING: in a shocking turn of events Marjorie Taylor Greene becomes the GOP's voice of reason. DISCLAIMER: This video is digitally altered for comedic effect. #photoshop #parody #satire

We reached out to Adelsbach over Instagram to confirm whether the video originated from that account. The Instagram page has a history of publishing manipulated and edited footage and images of Trump and other public figures.

Additionally, the footage in question was clearly edited by AI tools. As Greene's hands move, her fingers disappear and reappear. The shadow behind the "poster" she places on the wall is also clearly fake, as it has a sharp outline at first before vanishing.

Greene, who was known as a Trump loyalist, is one of a few prominent Republicans who have defied Trump to force a House vote on releasing files related to Epstein's case. She has also urged the president to meet with Epstein's victims of sexual assault and appeared with Epstein's accusers at a news conference.

In July, we reported on the existence of the purported birthday letter from Trump. On Sept. 8, the House Committee released an image of the same purported letter from Trump to Epstein. News about the letter came out after the Justice Department published a memo saying it would no longer release documents related to Epstein and concluded he did not maintain an elite "client list."

The memo angered Republicans and Trump supporters who had long spread conspiracy theories about the files.
