In late May 2026, a claim (archived) circulated online that there was no bad weather forecast when U.S. President Donald Trump moved a May 27, 2026, Cabinet meeting from Camp David to the White House citing poor weather conditions.

Trump wrote (archived) on Truth Social on May 26:

Based on the possible bad weather conditions tomorrow, we will be having our Cabinet Meeting in the White House, and will be postponing the Cabinet trip to Camp David. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Social media users speculated that the president used "possible bad weather conditions" to cover for health-related reasons why he couldn't travel to Camp David.

One X user shared Trump's post and wrote, "There's no bad weather tomorrow. Trump saw the doctor and they told him to stay close to Walter Reed for monitoring."

Users on Facebook (archived) and Threads (archived) also commented on Trump's post coinciding with a three-hour visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on May 26, reportedly for preventative health checks.

However, claims that there was no bad weather forecast for Frederick County, Maryland — where Camp David is located — when Trump moved the Cabinet meeting were false.

Trump posted that he would move the Cabinet meeting on Truth Social at 4:47 p.m. EDT on May 26. National and local (archived) forecasts from the National Weather Service issued in the afternoon and evening on May 26 forecast rain and thunderstorms for Maryland and Frederick County on May 27.

Snopes asked the White House Press Office whether it could comment on claims that Trump used bad weather forecasts to conceal a health-related reason he could not travel to Camp David on May 27. A spokesperson referred us to Trump's Truth Social post, writing, "He explains that its weather related."

We also contacted The Weather Channel and Accuweather, two private forecasting companies in the U.S., to ask for their forecasts for Frederick County when Trump made his Truth Social post and await replies to our queries.

By midday on May 27, AccuWeather (archived) and The Weather Channel (archived) said the weather in Thurmont, Maryland (the nearest town to Camp David), was rainy with thunderstorms predicted into the early afternoon. Trump's Cabinet meeting started at the White House at 11 a.m.

Rain and especially thunderstorms could have caused problems if Trump was planning to fly to Camp David from the White House. Presidents have flown to Camp David by helicopter since the Eisenhower administration. While it is possible to drive from the White House to Camp David, flying eliminates the need to close or secure roadways for the president's travel.

Meanwhile, there was no evidence Trump moved the May 27 Cabinet meeting from Camp David to the White House because of health issues discovered during his May 26 visit to Walter Reed.

The president posted (archived) on Truth Social on May 26:

Just finished my 6 month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Everything checked out PERFECTLY. Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff! Heading back to the White House. President DJT

Snopes has previously investigated whether Trump was secretly hospitalized at Walter Reed over Easter weekend 2026.
