About this rating

Context

The photo — from 2016 — is authentic, meaning not generated by artificial intelligence. It is, however, edited to remove a profanity that appeared above the "Donald" text in the original image. That profanity made it clear at the time that SZA did not support then-presidential candidate Trump.

In July 2025, a photo (archived) circulated online claiming to authentically show R&B artist SZA wearing a shirt indicating she supported U.S. President Donald Trump.

(X user @ichosevioIence)

The photo, which circulated on X (archived) and Facebook (archived), showed SZA wearing a red shirt with the text "Donald" and a U.S. flag. One X user, whose post had more than 350,000 views at the time of this writing, wrote "let's not forget how sza supported donald trump.."

However, the photo was edited, though it was unclear at the time of this writing who had altered it. The original photo — from 2016 — showed SZA at the Made in America Festival in Philadelphia, wearing the same red shirt, which read "F*** Donald," referring to then-presidential candidate Trump. Therefore, we rate the edited photo as a fake.

Several other photos from the picture agency Getty Images and the Made in America Festival X account (archived) also showed SZA wearing the "F*** Donald" shirt.

Though SZA's political leaning was unclear at the time of this writing, X posts from the singer in 2016 did not indicate she supported Trump at that time.

In one such post (archived), SZA wrote "Bottom line If you support trump publicly u support bigotry, lying and xenophobia. Ppl are DYING from the stereotypes he perpetuates. Period."
