Fact Check

Trump didn't ask people to focus on girls who died in Texas floods over Epstein files

Nor did he say “Focus on MEXICANS and FLOODING” on Truth Social.

Claim:
U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social: “Could you all just FOCUS on the very many other more important things to discuss than whether or not I may or MAY NOT be all over the Epstein Files? There was a BIG FLOOD in Texas. Huge flood as it relates to water. Many people DIED. Many beautiful young girls. Perhaps some not so beautiful illegal Mexican peoples as well. Perhaps drug dealers disguised as day laborers. You can never tell. They don't speak American. That is very suspicious. Again, forget about me and the Epstein Files. Focus on MEXICANS and FLOODING.”

About this rating

In early July 2025, a screenshot claimed to show a real Truth Social post by U.S. President Donald Trump calling on people to forget the "Epstein files" and focus on the "beautiful young girls" who died in the Texas flash floods over the Fourth of July. Per the screenshot, Trump wrote:

Could you all just FOCUS on the very many other more important things to discuss than whether or not I may or MAY NOT be all over the Epstein Files? There was a BIG FLOOD in Texas. Huge flood as it relates to water. Many people DIED. Many beautiful young girls. Perhaps some not so beautiful illegal Mexican peoples as well. Perhaps drug dealers disguised as day laborers. But we found no evidence of Trump ever making the above post on any of his social media accounts. As such, we rate this claim as false.

Searching for variations of the quote on Google uncovered no reliable sources connecting it to the president. Trying sections of the phrase such as, "Focus on MEXICANS and FLOODING," "Perhaps some not so beautiful illegal Mexican peoples" and "Huge flood as it relates to water" provided no reliable sources.

Roll Call's archive of Trump's social media on X and TruthSocial also found no posts resembling the various forms of the passage, nor did searching for "Epstein files" on his X profile or on Trump's Truth, another website dedicated to archiving his Truth Social posts. We looked through archived screenshots of his Truth Social pages from July 10, 2025, and also found no evidence that he wrote and deleted such a post.

If Trump had said this in public or posted about it on social media, it would have been widely covered by news media publications.

Since July 4, 2025, flooding in Texas caused around 120 deaths and left more than 170 people missing.

In early July the U.S. Department of Justice and FBI also concluded that convicted sex offender/financier Jeffrey Epstein had no "client list" and was not murdered (he was found dead in his jail cell reportedly by suicide while awaiting trial on new charges of sex trafficking girls in 2019). The findings contradict conspiracy theories often pushed by Trump supporters, resulting in anger from Trump's base.

We have often debunked fake quotes attributed to Trump, including one that falsely claimed Trump said he had seen "dark matter."
