In early July 2026, a rumor circulated online that U.S. President Donald Trump joked about having a "threesome" with two of his sons.
For example, one social media user shared footage (archived) of the president making a speech and wrote, "This is not f*cking normal." That user claimed Trump said: "I see my two beautiful sons sitting there. I think I'm going to give one medal of honor to myself, one to them, and we'll have a threesome."
The video and claim spread online after Trump spoke at the dedication ceremony for the newly built Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in North Dakota on July 1.
In short, authentic footage from reputable news media outlets shows Trump joking about a "threesome" with two of his sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., but in the context of awarding the pair of them and himself a Medal of Honor each. As such, we rate this claim as a correct attribution.
It was not possible to independently verify whether he made this joke intentionally, though he did later add he was "only kidding."

Trump made the comment during his dedication speech at the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. He spoke about bringing Roosevelt's Congressional Medal of Honor to the library and mentioned how the former president's son also received a medal. The footage showed no signs of being generated using artificial intelligence software. From the 1:15:25 mark onward, he said (emphasis ours):

They're the only father and son pair to receive our nation's highest military award for courage above and beyond the call of duty. Now, as I see my two beautiful sons sitting there, I think I'm going to give one to myself, one to them, and we'll have a threesome, OK? I'll pick out one of the two.

Numerous news media outlets reported that the "threesome" comment referred to Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. Reuters news agency and Getty Images both captured photos of the pair at the event, confirming that Donald Trump was talking about them. (His third son, Barron Trump, did not appear to be at the speech.)
During his tour of the library, Trump also spoke to an artificial intelligence version of Roosevelt. The event coincided with the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States. The president also called Roosevelt "a great he-man" and "a proud man." Trump added: "I'm a proud man, I'm proud of our country. I'm proud that two years ago we had a country that was a laughing stock all over the world, and now we have the hottest country anywhere in the world, the most respected country anywhere in the world."
