In mid-July 2025, the claim that White House social media accounts posted a picture portraying U.S. President Donald Trump as Superman circulated widely on platforms like X and Facebook, coinciding with the U.S. release (archived) of the new "Superman" film on July 11.

For example, on July 10, an X account posted (archived) a screenshot of the alleged White House post, captioned: "All hail Superman Trump. Totally normal stuff, and yes, this is from the official White House account."

This post gained over 6,400 likes as of this writing. Similar screenshots were spotted elsewhere on X (archived), Facebook (archived) and Bluesky (archived).

The claim was true. On July 10, 2025, the White House posted an image depicting Trump as Superman on X (archived), Facebook (archived), Instagram (archived) and other platforms. The image featured Trump's face superimposed on Superman's body, wearing the iconic blue suit and red cape.

The text accompanying the image read:

THE SYMBOL OF HOPE.

TRUTH. JUSTICE. THE AMERICAN WAY.

SUPERMAN TRUMP.

The use of "Truth, Justice, and the American Way" was notable as this was the character's motto for decades. According to a DC Studios blog post (archived), while this motto originated in the 1940s "Adventures of Superman" radio show during World War II, it wasn't consistently used until Christopher Reeve's 1978 "Superman" film made it "a lasting indelible slogan." The motto has since been updated in 2022, DC Comics changed it to "Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow" with the rise of Jon Kent, the son of Clark Kent (Superman's alter ego) and reporter Lois Lane, who took up his father's mantle in the comic book series "Superman: Son of Kal-El."

The White House posted the image of Trump on the eve of the theatrical release of director James Gunn's new "Superman" film, which premiered (archived) on July 11, 2025. The timing appeared to be a response to conservative criticism of the film after Gunn described Superman as "the story of America" and "an immigrant that came from other places and populated the country" in his interview (archived) with The Times.

Some conservatives on social media criticized (archived) the film as "woke," leading to a backlash against it before its release. Fox News personality Kellyanne Conway stated (archived) on July 7, "We don't go to the movie theater to be lectured to and to have somebody throw their ideology onto us."

Notably, according to an article posted (archived) by The Washington Examiner, the "S" symbol on Trump's chest in the image appeared to be from the Christopher Reeve era of "Superman" films rather than the design (archived) used in the 2025 film, though this detail was not officially confirmed.
