A rumor circulating online claimed jailed rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs' Los Angeles mansion burned down during the January 2025 California wildfires, which had killed at least 25 people and destroyed thousands of homes, as of this writing. Some users sharing this rumor attached to their posts a photo of a massive home destroyed by flames.

For example, on or around Jan. 10, three TikTok users each shared the rumor and picture, displaying as, "P Diddy's California mansion has been completely consumed by fire. It should be noted that the House would enter into investigation in a couple of days where many names would be involved in the case, unfortunately that will no longer be possible." The three TikTok photo posts combined for around 11 million total views.

Numerous other users on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok and X shared the same rumor.

However, as of this writing, the rumor Combs' L.A. mansion burned down in the wildfires was false. Also, the picture some users shared depicting a massive house destroyed by flames was mis-captioned. The photo pertained to an unrelated 2014 fire at a 10,000-square-foot home in Indian Hill, Ohio. The Associated Press attributed the picture to Joseph Fuqua II of The Cincinnati Enquirer.

According to satellite imagery provided by the space-technology company Maxar Technologies, an image dated Jan. 14, 2025, displayed Combs' property and the surrounding area as untouched by the fires. To find Combs' home, search for his Holmby Hills mailing address on Google Maps. Then, on the Maxar Technologies website, zoom in to visually and manually locate the same property.)

Combs Faces Federal Charges, Additional Lawsuits

Federal agents arrested Combs in New York on Sept. 16, 2024. On the next day, the U.S. Attorney's Office charged him with various crimes, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. Combs pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The indictment's summary read, in part, "From at least 2008 through the present, Combs led a criminal enterprise that existed to facilitate his abuse and exploitation of women, to protect his reputation, and to conceal his conduct. As part of that criminal enterprise, Combs, along with other members and associates of the enterprise, committed crimes including sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice."

The assertion in the aforementioned social media posts about an investigation "that will no longer be possible" was misleading. Federal agents already raided Combs' properties in March 2024, including his homes in L.A. and Miami, Florida, and later documented evidence they obtained in the indictment.

In November 2024, BBC News reported Combs faced more than two dozen additional lawsuits as he sat in federal custody awaiting trial.
