A Reddit user claimed in early 2025 that they had seen a "security notice" sign on the inner side of a bathroom stall door at DFW International Airport between Dallas and Fort Worth. The text of the purported sign advised individuals of technology that might photograph their genitals to "help keep Texans safe," as part of an "Electronic Genital Verification (EGV) pilot program at the direction of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor."
The user, u/Stickybubs, first posted a picture of the supposed sign on the r/texas subreddit on Feb. 9, with the caption, "Spotted inside DFW airport bathroom stall."

Other Reddit users shared the same photo on the subreddits r/dallas, r/therewasanattempt, r/funnysigns, r/houstonwade, r/MildlyVandalised, r/gaybros and r/USMC. A reverse-image search also located a repost on Imgur, titled, "Great troll, phone number is for the Lt. Governor's office."
That Imgur user correctly described the matter as a "troll," in that the sign displayed a phone number for the office line of Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. The Dallas Observer publication reported the matter existed as a "prank," likely in reference to the past efforts of Patrick, a Republican, to promote legislative restrictions on transgender bathroom usage.
By email, Cynthia Vega, the media relations manager for DFW Airport, told Snopes, "This is not a DFW-produced or authorized sign, and we have no information about its origins. However, we are investigating to ensure that none is posted, and we will remove any unauthorized signs if found."
As of this writing, we had not yet definitively determined whether someone had posted one or more of the signs in bathroom stalls, or whether someone simply created a fake photo. We contacted Patrick's office for comment and will update this story if we receive a response or learn more details.
The text of the sign featured some bolded portions, and read:
SECURITY NOTICE
Electronic Genital Verification (EGV)
Your genitalia may be photographed electronically during your use of this facility as part of the Electronic Genital Verification (EGV) pilot program at the direction of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. In the future, EGV will help keep Texans safe while protecting your privacy by screening for potentially improper restroom access using machine vision and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in lieu of traditional genital inspections.
At this time, images collected will be used solely for model training purposes and will not be used for law enforcement or shared with entities except as pursuant to a subpoena, court order or as otherwise compelled by a legal process.
Your participation in this program is voluntary.
You have the right to request removal of your data by calling the EGV program office at (512) 463-0001 during normal operating hours (Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM).
