Unpacking claim video shows Trump watching Bad Bunny halftime show at Mar-a-Lago

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt previously said she thought the U.S. president "would much prefer a Kid Rock performance over Bad Bunny."

In February 2026, social media users shared a video they claimed showed U.S. President Trump watching Bad Bunny's 2026 Super Bowl halftime show during a party at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida.

The clip featured Trump and other guests, including Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, while the six-time Grammy winner's performance appeared on at least two large screens.

Some users said or implied that the conservative Turning Point USA's alternative halftime event, "The All-American Halftime Show" — which featured Kid Rock and other musicians and had no official Super Bowl affiliation — did not appear on the screens in the Mar-a-Lago video. The beginning of the clip also seemed to capture room audio from Bad Bunny's performance rather than sound from the other halftime show.

Users shared the purported video from Trump's party on Bluesky (archived), Facebook (archived), Instagram, Reddit (archived), Threads (archived), TikTok (archived) and X. One popular Instagram repost displayed the onscreen caption, "Trump and Republicans watching Bad Bunny at the halftime show instead of Kid Rock at TPUSA."

The popular @patriottakes X account — a user sharing progressive political content — shared the clip in a post (archived), though it's unclear whether the video originated with the account.

We messaged the @patriottakes account and emailed its alleged owners to ask for the source of the video, and we will update this article if they respond.

While the clip shows no obvious signs of AI generation or digital alteration, we have not been able to verify it with the person who originally captured it. As such, we've left this claim unrated until we learn more about the video and its source.

Snopes also emailed the White House to ask whether the video of Trump was authentic, whether he had watched the Turning Point USA halftime show, whether Turning Point's show appeared on other screens not visible in the clip, and whether he planned to comment on the conservative organization's performance. In response, an unidentified White House spokesperson referred us to a Truth Social post (archived) in which Trump blasted Bad Bunny's performance as "absolutely terrible," "an affront to the Greatness of America" and "a 'slap in the face' to our Country." His post did not mention Kid Rock or the Turning Point USA halftime show, and the spokesperson did not confirm whether the video was genuine.

More about the video, Leavitt's remarks

The video that appeared to be recorded at Trump's club included two short clips. Two large screens visible in the first clip, again featuring room-captured audio, showed the moment during the halftime show performance when Bad Bunny began dancing with Lady Gaga. That same moment appeared at the 6:46 mark in the NFL's official "Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show" YouTube video.

The second clip showed dancers, and then Bad Bunny, earlier in the performance (at the 1:56 mark in the YouTube video).

Days before the Super Bowl, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy asked White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during a news briefing (at 15:23), "At the Mar-a-Lago Super Bowl party, after the first two quarters, are the TVs going to be on the halftime show with Bad Bunny or the halftime show with Kid Rock?"

Leavitt did not explicitly say which halftime show would play at the party. She replied, "I think the president would much prefer a Kid Rock performance over Bad Bunny. I must say that."

For further reading, we previously investigated a fake image users claimed showed Bad Bunny burning an American flag onstage ahead of the halftime show.
