Following U.S. President Donald Trump's inauguration in January 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers have been busy enacting the administration's promise of mass deportation, which has led to both support in some opinion polls as well as widespread protests .
Countless claims about ICE's presence across the country have crossed the desks of Snopes fact-checkers, running the gamut from accusations of food delivery apps providing data to law enforcement to rumors that ICE removed people with Hispanic last names from databases. We also looked into claims that tow truck drivers were targeting illegally parked ICE vehicles, that fast-food chain In-N-Out promised free food for immigration officers and that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem testified before Congress that Republicans had voted to allow Jan. 6, 2021, rioters to work for ICE.
With so much information flying around — and not all of it accurate — we collected 20 rumors we've looked into pertaining to the federal immigration agency and its ongoing presence in cities across the U.S.:
