The end of Bondi's tenure as U.S. attorney general was announced April 2, 2026, following months of scrutiny over her handling of the Epstein files.

On April 2, 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump announced Pam Bondi's time as head of the U.S. Department of Justice was ending. "We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The attorney general's ouster followed months of scrutiny over the DOJ's handling of the files on deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and Trump's reported frustration with her leadership.

In a statement (archived) on April 2, Bondi reiterated her allegiance to Trump, stating she would "continue fighting" for Trump in her private sector role.
