U.S. President Donald Trump and former adviser/tech mogul Elon Musk got into an explosive online feud on June 5, 2025. Musk posted on his social media platform, X, that Trump's name appeared in government files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and that's why those files remain unreleased. In turn, Trump suggested on his own social media platform, Truth Social, that canceling Musk's government contracts would be the "easiest" way to save money in the federal budget.
Snopes has fact-checked many claims that have spread related to the feud, such as an apparent plea from Ye (formerly Kanye West) for the two "bros" to stop fighting, Musk calling for Trump to be impeached , and various claims about Trump and Epstein's supposed friendship.
