Through two presidential terms, U.S. President Donald Trump has been a heavy user of social media, including X (known as Twitter during his first term) and his own platform Truth Social. Trump has used artificial intelligence liberally in his posts, sharing AI-generated content of himself as the pope and in a fighter jet "poop-bombing" protesters, as well as a video depicting President Barack Obama getting arrested in the Oval Office.
Imagery he shared also included false information, such as fictional AI-generated "med beds" and a doctored photograph in which "MS13" was added above tattoos on the hand of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a man in the U.S. illegally who was deported by the Trump administration due to an "administrative error."
We also have published explainers on AI-generated "slop" and how to identify such material online. Below are stories we've covered about Trump's propagation of doctored and AI-generated content.
