Soon after Israel and the U.S. launched their military campaign against Iran on Feb. 28, 2026, a claim circulated online that the White House said U.S. President Donald Trump's youngest son, Barron Trump, was unable to serve in the military due to his height, racking up millions of views across multiple platforms.
"The White House says Barron Trump is 'too tall' at 6'9" to serve in the military. David Robinson was 7'0" and put his NBA career on hold to serve in the Navy. If Robinson could do it, Barron can too. Who agrees?" one popular post (archived) read.

Although we were unable to determine which account first made the claim, the earliest related version of the rumor we could find was a since-deleted Reddit post.
We found no evidence the White House issued such a statement. The White House archive of briefs and statements (archived) contained no announcement regarding Barron Trump's height or potential military enlistment. We reached out to the White House seeking confirmation and did not immediately receive a response. We will update this story if we do.
A review of Donald Trump's social media pages also did not return any evidence the president made such a claim.
After six U.S. soldiers were killed by Iran's retaliatory fire following the U.S.-Israel strikes, Donald Trump said in a March 2 speech, "Sadly, there will likely be more before it ends, that's the way it is." At the same time, calls intensified for Barron Trump to enlist in the military — including by a satirical website launched by "South Park" writer Toby Morton called DraftBarronTrump.com. We reached out to Morton seeking comment, and will update this story if we receive a response.
A Google search for a White House statement regarding Barron Trump's height primarily turned up results primarily related to Morton's website and other social media posts. If the White House or Trump had made such a public statement, credible news outlets would have reported it.

Barron Trump is indeed of above-average height. As of January 2024, he reportedly stood at 6 feet, 7 inches, and his father has also said he is 6 feet, 8 inches tall. As of this writing, Barron Trump's Wikipedia page listed his height as 6 feet, 9 inches, but the cited article did not support that claim — which may have misled social media users into thinking he is taller than previously reported.
Men looking to enlist in the U.S. Army must be between 58 and 80 inches, capping height eligibility at 6 feet, 8 inches. However, because Snopes was unable to confirm Barron Trump's exact height, we are unable to say whether he cannot serve in the military.
Some social media users compared the claim to Trump's own draft exemption during the Vietnam War, when he was diagnosed with bone spurs. The New York Times later claimed Trump's doctor may have fudged the diagnosis as a favor to his building's owner, Trump's father.
