About this rating

In April 2026, a video resurfaced appearing to show a North Korean news segment making fun of the June 2025 U.S. military parade in Washington, D.C. Dubbed captioning claimed the presenter said "the propaganda exercise was swallowed whole by the dull of mind and incurious of spirit."

One post from April 3, 2026, received over 300,000 views, as of this writing (archived).

The claim is false. It originated with Waterford Whispers News — an Irish satire site that describes its output as being humorous or satirical in nature. Its Facebook bio states that its content is "Satire/parody."

The reporter in the video stated the following (in an English language voice-over):

The capitalist pigs of America held a gaudy and vainglorious display of their dwindling military might this past weekend.

The U.S. has not won a war since the U.S.S.R. defeated Germany in 1945, and the U.S. celebrated this fact by shining all their best tanks and guns.

Their inferior leader, pictured here looking old, confused and tired, sat next to an expensive prostitute and a drunk television host for the duration of the parade.

In total, $40 million was spent on the parade by the debt-ridden failed state, shamefully done so at a time of increasing poverty in the country.

Many have noted how pudgy and overweight the Trump looks at a time when Americans struggle for food.

Unable to tolerate political dissent, the inferior leader's supporters shot dead an opposition politician in one city, while in other locations, a protester was shot, and a follower of the cult leader attempted to drive his car into the crowd.

The propaganda exercise was swallowed whole by the dull of mind and incurious of spirit. The helpless sheep believe themselves to be the envy of the world, but the world laughs in their faces.

Waterford Whispers News also posted the clip on the site's other social media accounts, including YouTube:

The video was also shared on other Facebook accounts, as well as on Reddit and Bluesky.

The reporter pictured in the video is a real North Korean reporter. Her name is Ri Chun-hee and she works as a newsreader for Pyongyang's Korean Central Television (KCTV) news channel. While the footage itself appears to have stemmed from a 2018 news segment, the English script and the claims made in the recently circulated videos are entirely fake.

Some readers seemed to interpret the rumor as a factual recounting of real-life events. However, there was no evidence of any authentic North Korean news segment making fun of Trump and the June 14 military parade.

Snopes has addressed similar satirical claims stemming from Waterford Whispers News in the past, including the assertion that Trump appointed Bill Cosby as Secretary for Women's Rights and a rumor that Eurovision 2019 granted Palestine permission to compete.

For background, here is why we alert readers to rumors created by sources that call their output humorous or satirical.
